Set Mompreneur SMART Goals

1st up, is SMART goals! Setting SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound) goals is crucial when scaling your business. Have you ever heard of SMART goals (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound)? This has helped me achieve so many of my goals with my entrepreneurial endeavors, so I wanted to share in case you haven’t set a SMART goal before or wanted to revisit it!

So what are these goals & why would a coach use them? What does it even mean? In short, people use SMART goals to keep themselves on track. For instance, if you want to grow your blog to 10,000 visits per day, setting SMART goals would help you put a realistic plan in action for you.

By setting your goals to be “SMART”, you are making sure your goals are actually attainable and can be met.

This doesn't mean you can't dream big - quite the opposite! SMART goals allow you to dream as big as you want, all while keeping you within realistic timelines and boundaries. As a mompreneur, you're juggling a lot already, so having clear objectives will help you stay focused and measure your progress. Start by identifying your long-term vision and breaking it into smaller, more manageable goals. Make sure each goal is specific so you know exactly what needs to be accomplished.

Here is a breakdown of SMART goals:

  • Specific. Make the goal specific with an endpoint. It needs to be direct, detailed, and meaningful. Fuzzy goals can cause confusion.

  • Measurable. The progress of the goal should be measurable in order to track progress and success.

  • Attainable. Make the goal achievable and realistic with your available tools and resources. Do not overextend yourself without a plan.

  • Relevant. Your goal should be realistically achievable.

  • Time-based. Set a deadline and work to that date. If you keep the date open, then most likely you will keep pushing the date out.

Track your progress by setting measurable benchmarks, and ensure your goals are achievable and realistic to avoid setting yourself up for disappointment.

Keep your objectives relevant to your business's overall mission and set deadlines to maintain a sense of urgency. Following the SMART framework will create a roadmap to success that will keep you motivated and on track.

Prioritize Time Management

Time is a precious commodity, especially for busy moms. To make the most of your time, developing effective time management habits is essential. Start by identifying your peak productivity hours – when you're most focused and energized – and schedule your most critical tasks during these periods. Break down your day into blocks, assigning specific tasks to each block to ensure you're making progress on all fronts.

For example, I know from 5am to 7:30am is a time where I can work uninterrupted while my son still sleeps. This is where I focus on "must-do" daily tasks. The next break is his nap time, where I will get 1-3 additional uninterrupted hours. This is the time where I get to create and work on other things that are on my to-do list.

Learn to prioritize tasks using the Eisenhower Matrix, which categorizes tasks into four quadrants: urgent and important, important but not urgent, urgent but not important, and neither urgent nor important. Focus on completing the urgent and important tasks first, followed by the important but not urgent tasks. Delegate or outsource the urgent but unimportant tasks, and consider eliminating or postponing the functions that are neither urgent nor important.

You can also use my "ABC Priority" to-do list method, if that works better for you. You can read more about it in my post "10 Time Management Tips for Busy Mompreneurs"

To further enhance your time management skills, consider using productivity tools like Trello, Asana, or Google Calendar to help you stay organized and on top of your to-do list. These tools can help you visualize your workload, set reminders, and collaborate more efficiently with your team.

Build a Supportive Mompreneur Network

Having a strong support network is essential for any mompreneur. Surround yourself with like-minded entrepreneurs, mentors, and industry experts who can offer advice, guidance, and a shoulder to lean on during challenging times. To build your network, join local business groups, attend networking events, and participate in online forums and social media groups tailored to your industry or entrepreneurial interests.

Don't hesitate to reach out to people you admire or whose businesses align with yours. Many entrepreneurs are happy to share their experiences and knowledge with others. Connecting with other mompreneurs gives you access to valuable resources, advice, and potential collaboration opportunities. Moreover, a supportive network can provide emotional support and encouragement, which is essential when navigating the ups and downs of business growth and expansion.

As you expand your network, remember that networking is a two-way street. Be ready to offer your expertise, knowledge, and connections to others, and you'll find that the relationships you build will be even more fruitful and long-lasting.

Invest in Your Online Presence

A robust online presence is vital for business growth in today's digital age. Start by investing in a user-friendly, responsive website that showcases your products or services in the best light possible. Make sure your website is optimized for search engines (SEO) to increase visibility and drive organic traffic to your site.

Next, develop a strong social media presence on platforms where your target audience is most active, such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, or Pinterest. Share engaging content, interact with your audience, and don't forget to showcase your expertise as a mompreneur through blog posts, podcasts, or webinars. Consistent, high-quality content will help you build brand awareness and establish trust with your audience.

Consider running targeted social media ads or collaborating with influencers to expand your reach and attract potential customers. Keep track of your online presence's performance using analytics tools, and continuously refine your digital marketing strategy based on the insights you gain.

Automate and Streamline Processes

Embrace technology to automate and streamline tasks, allowing you to focus on what you do best – growing your business. Utilize tools like MailChimp or ConvertKit for email marketing, which can help you segment your audience, automate email campaigns, and track their performance. Hootsuite or Buffer can be used for social media management, allowing you to schedule posts in advance, monitor engagement, and analyze your social media performance.

For accounting, tools like QuickBooks or Xero can save time by automating invoicing, tracking expenses, and generating financial reports. Explore project management and collaboration tools like Trello, Asana, or Slack to keep your team organized, improve communication, and track project progress.

By automating and streamlining processes, you'll save time and reduce the risk of human error, increase efficiency, and create a more organized work environment, ultimately contributing to your business's growth and expansion.

Provide Exceptional Customer Service

Happy customers are the backbone of any successful business, and providing exceptional customer service is essential for building a loyal customer base. Make it easy for customers to reach you by offering multiple contact channels, such as email, phone, or live chat. Ensure your customer service team is well-trained and empowered to resolve issues quickly and effectively.

Foster strong customer relationships by being responsive, proactive, and solution-oriented. Personalize your interactions with customers, and show genuine interest in their needs and concerns. Encourage customer feedback and reviews to learn from your customers' experiences and continuously improve your products or services.

Leverage social media and email marketing to inform customers about new products, promotions, or events. A loyal and satisfied customer base can be a powerful marketing tool – they're more likely to recommend your business to friends and family, which can lead to new customers and increased sales. You'll create a strong foundation for your business's growth and expansion by prioritizing exceptional customer service.

Don't Be Afraid to Ask for Help

Remember, it's okay to ask for help. As a mompreneur, you're wearing multiple hats, and it's essential to recognize when you need support. Whether it's hiring a virtual assistant, enlisting the help of a family member, or outsourcing specific tasks, don't hesitate to seek assistance when needed. By delegating tasks, you can focus on the core aspects of your business and avoid burnout.

Start by identifying tasks that can be delegated or outsourced, such as administrative work, social media management, or content creation. Consider hiring freelancers or part-time employees for these tasks, or explore platforms like Upwork, Fiverr, or Belay to find skilled professionals. When outsourcing, clearly communicate your expectations, provide constructive feedback, and establish a strong working relationship with your contractor.

Another source of help is mentorship. Connecting with experienced entrepreneurs or industry experts can provide invaluable guidance, support, and insights as you scale your business. Don't be afraid to reach out to potential mentors and ask for advice – most people are happy to share their knowledge and help others succeed.

Finally, don't forget the power of your personal network. Your friends, family, and fellow mompreneurs can offer emotional support, encouragement, and practical help with childcare or running errands. By building a strong support system, you'll be better equipped to handle the challenges of scaling your business while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

Scaling your business as a mom entrepreneur may seem daunting, but with the right strategies, mindset, and support, it's achievable. By setting SMART goals, optimizing your time management, building a supportive network, enhancing your online presence, automating and streamlining processes, providing exceptional customer service, and asking for help when needed, you'll be well on your way to growing and expanding your business.
