First things first, it's time to prioritize, ladies! I'm going to share THE BEST time management trick an old boss taught me 15+ years ago.

Here's what you're going to do:

  • List all the tasks you need to complete.

  • Rank them based on their importance and urgency under categories A, B, and C. A is high priority, B is medium, and C is low priority.

  • Now, you'll just start with the A category and make your way down the list.


By tackling your to-do list this way, you can focus on what truly matters and avoid getting overwhelmed by the million and one little things you need to do.


You can determine this by how pressing it is. If something is more urgent, it goes under the A category. If it isn't on a tight deadline, it can go under low-priority task (C category). This is easily one of the best time management for working mom strategies that is so simple to implement and immediately helps.

Think of your grand aspirations as a jigsaw puzzle.


Each small task you complete is like a piece that fits perfectly into place. Not only does this keep you organized, but it also gives you a sense of accomplishment as you tick them off one by one. It's way easier to tackle bite-sized tasks than trying to swallow a big goal whole!


Research actually backs this up: Studies show that breaking your objectives into smaller, more achievable steps can boost your chances of success by a whopping 62% (Gollwitzer, 2016).


So, go ahead, break those big dreams into smaller, digestible milestones. Those small steps are getting you to the end goal!


Delegate and Outsource

Repeat after me: "I don't have to do it all alone."


It's perfectly okay to ask for help. In fact, it's smart!


That brings us to our next savvy time management strategy: delegation and outsourcing. This is one of the time management ideas that us moms overlook. We are so used to doing everything ourselves, we forget others can help.


If there's a task that someone else can handle, don't hesitate to pass it along. You don't have to do everything on your own. If there's a task that someone else can handle, don't hesitate to delegate or outsource.


These tasks could be anything from hiring a virtual assistant (*cough*cough* you can hire me 😉) to help with your business or asking your partner to pick up the kids from school.


Remember, teamwork makes the dream work babyyyy.

And because I'm a facts and stats girl, let's keep them rolling. A recent survey revealed that successful entrepreneurs spend 50% less time on administrative tasks than their less successful peers (Gino, 2018). By delegating and outsourcing, you're freeing up precious time and energy to focus on what truly matters – growing your business and nurturing your family.


Time Management Blocking

Time blocking is your new best friend! Allocate specific time slots on your calendar for different tasks or activities throughout the day. This will help you stay focused and on track, maximizing your time. If you treat it like a mandatory meeting time, you are more likely to use that slotted time getting stuff done! I personally use Google Calendar and have it synced up to all of my devices.


Don't forget to schedule some "me time," too, because self-care is crucial for staying sane in the mom entrepreneur world!

PRO TIP: Make sure to turn off all distractions. No social media, no tv, nothing. When it's time to enter a time block, you have to make sure your work has your undivided attention in order to crank out as much as possible.

A study by the University of California, Irvine, found that people who use time blocking are 29% more productive than those who don't (Mark et al., 2015). So, it's time to grab your planner and start blocking out your day for maximum productivity!


Eliminate Distractions

Let's face it, distractions are everywhere and can be the biggest time-wasters. Nowadays, it is DIFFICULT to not get distracted or hold our attention for long periods.


Here is what I suggest:


Identify your main distractions and find ways to minimize or eliminate them.

For example, if you constantly check your phone, try putting it on airplane mode or in another room while you work. Trust me, your Instagram feed can wait!


Have you heard ofThe Pomodoro method? It works great. If you don't know what it is, essentially, it is where you will set a timer for, say, 45 minutes, and once it goes off, you give yourself a 15-minute break. And then rinse and repeat. It's an excellent way to stay focused.

Distraction blocking apps are also super helpful . Here are some top apps to use:

  • Freedom for blocking distractions on all your devices at once

  • Focus is a combo Pomodoro timer and distraction blocker

  • LeechBlock NG is free and blocks websites for you

  • PawBlock is also distraction blocking but cutified with animal pictures

A little fun fact, according to a study by the University of California, Irvine, it takes an average of 23 minutes and 15 seconds to refocus after being interrupted (Mark et al., 2015). So, by eliminating distractions, you're saving valuable time and boosting your productivity.


Learn to Say No

Sometimes, we have to put our foot down and say no. You don't have to attend every event, join every committee, or take on every project that comes your way.


Be selective with your time and energy, and focus on what aligns with your goals and values. By learning to say no, you're empowering yourself to prioritize what's truly important and staying true to your priorities.


Let me tell you, when you can stand up for yourself and say no when you genuinely need to say no, it makes a BIG difference in your mental health. It allows you to focus energy on only things that matter to you. If you are like me and have difficulty saying no, I encourage you to commit to saying no when necessary. You got this, mama!


A study published in the Journal of Consumer Research revealed that people who say "I don't" instead of "I can't" when declining invitations or requests are more successful at maintaining their commitments (Patrick & Hagtvedt, 2012).


Set Boundaries

Setting boundaries is essential for maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Make it clear to your family, friends, and clients when you're available and when you're not. Establishing these boundaries will help you stay focused during work hours and allow you to fully unwind and relax during your downtime.


According to a study by the American Psychological Association, people who set boundaries between work and personal life experience lower levels of stress and higher levels of job satisfaction (Kossek et al., 2012). By setting clear boundaries, you're protecting your personal life and ensuring a more fulfilling professional journey.


Use Technology to Your Advantage

Many amazing tools and apps are designed to help us stay organized and manage our time more effectively.


Here are my top picks:

  • Project management: Trello, Asana, Notion and even Google Sheets

  • To-Do lists: Google Sheets and Todoist

  • Scheduling appointments: Calendly and Acuity

  • Designing: Canva and Adobe Creative Cloud

Test them out and find one that works best for you. You will see a huge difference in your productivity and time management.

Batch Your Tasks

Batching is a game-changer and can be paired with your time blocking. Group similar tasks together and tackle them in one go. This time management for working moms tip helps you stay in the zone and avoid constantly switching between tasks.


For example, set aside time for email and social media management, another block for client meetings, and another for house chores. You'll be amazed at how much more you can accomplish in a focused flow!
